Arkansas Senate Passes 2A Sanctuary Bill – Bearing Arms

3

From the moment it became clear that Joe Biden was going to be in the White House, we all knew what was coming. He ran on gun control and got massive support from gun control groups. It was a forgone conclusion that he was going to at least try and come for our guns.

Sure enough, no sooner than he was sworn in, anti-gun groups started licking their chops.

So, states started trying to take action. They wanted to, at a minimum, send a signal that gun control wasn’t acceptable. Most who have done anything opted for sanctuary state measures.

Arkansas just came a step closer to joining those states.

The Arkansas state Senate voted this week to block federal law enforcement officials enforcing certain gun laws and regulations, sending a bill to the state House in the midst of congressional gun-control proposals.

The Senate voted 28-7 to approve the measure, which will then be sent to the House. Arkansas’ Legislature is overwhelmingly Republican.

“All acts, law, orders, rules, and regulations of the United States Government, whether past, present, or future, that infringe on the people’s right to keep and bear arms as guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution and Arkansas Constitution, Article 2, [Section] 5, are invalid in this state, shall not be recognized by this state, are specifically rejected by this state, and shall be considered null and void and of no effect in this state,” according to the text of the bill.

The measure will prohibit any law enforcement agencies in Arkansas from cooperating with federal officials to enforce federal gun laws that go in conflict with the rights provided in the Arkansas Constitution, according to Arkansas Online. Some state lawmakers expressed a worry that President Joe Biden would ramp up gun-control measures.

Honestly, the idea that local officials will be barred from cooperating is about the best you can get from a sanctuary law as most are structured. The feds can come in and do whatever–that’s going to be difficult to prevent–but the locals aren’t going to cooperate with them. That will make their job more difficult, to say the least.

Of course, I happen to think our best bet is to make it so these sanctuary laws don’t matter. We need to defeat gun control laws here and now, prevent them from passing at the federal level in the first place. Then the argument about whether these laws will do anything becomes moot.

Until then, they do send a message of just how many states aren’t interested in gun control.

The thing is, there are a lot of other states that haven’t passed such laws that aren’t fond of the gun-grabbing either. The big question is whether anyone in Washington is bothering to listen.

Right now, you need to make them listen. Call and email your legislators and let them know where you stand. Even anti-gun lawmakers. Once they know it’s not as popular as they think, they’ll back off. They like gun control but they like their jobs and the associated power even better.
